![]() I discovered this after someone looking for viewing spots for the New York City fireworks found my little site about pocket parks. Thank you! Obviously, you cannot watch the fireworks in New York City while standing in a pocket park, so I thought I would be helpful and scouted around for information. It seems the entire northbound lanes of the West Side Highway will close to traffic aside from foot traffic. Just don't expect to a) take your backpack full of snacks (backpacks not allowed), or b) to sit down (chairs also not allowed). Unless you are in a boat or want to pay for a ticket to a viewing station such as the Intrepid or the Empire State Building, you may want to go early and pick out a prime spot. Better yet, enjoy your local fireworks if you don't live in NYC. Either way, enjoy the day off! Here's the scoop from Mommypoppins: At 2pm, Twelfth Avenue and the northbound lanes of the West Side Highway from 22nd to 59th Streets will be closed to traffic and turned into a giant block party. Access points will be on Eleventh Avenue at the following streets: 24th Street, 26th-27th Streets, 29th Street, 33rd-34th Streets, 40th Street, 42nd Street, 44th Street, 50th Street, 52nd Street, 54th Street and 56th-57th Streets. Note: All of these access points are subject to change at the discretion of the NYPD! Thank you to Mommypoppins for this valuable information.
