Pocket Parks of NYC
When I found this park, my first thought was, “Why isn’t this place more popular?” It is on top of a building only two stories tall, carefully nestled above crowded Third Avenue. It provides a rare bit of peace and quiet in the middle of NYC. If the 41 stairs are too daunting for you, there is an elevator located on the left after you walk under the clock.
At the top of the stairs, the space opens up providing views of the surrounding buildings. It’s like sitting in a nest in a treetop if trees had seats or people sat in nests. I loved it. Benches line the walls and stationary tables and chairs along with a few movable chairs are scattered throughout the space. The day I went, the kiosk in the center was not open, but I hear they serve coffee and other drinks at reasonable prices. I guess I'll have to go back. :)
Located at 622 Third Ave. at the corner of 40th Street.
