535 Madison near 54th St.
I love finding information when I have little to go on. The digging is fun. It reminds me why I became a writer. The latest example of this windfall is Christie’s Garden, located at 535 Madison Avenue at the northeast corner of 54th Street.
This space is interesting due to the cut-away at the bottom of the building. It seems impossible when you look at it that the building can stay up with just the column that supports that corner. The lobby is enclosed in glass, so it looks out onto the plaza filled with greenery, flowering trees and a waterfall.
I found this pocket park just about lunchtime, so it was the perfect time to stop for a bit. I went to the salad bar on the northwest corner of 54th and Madison - Smiler’s, one of my favorites - and picked up my usual salad/Chinese food combination, then sat at one of their movable tables to eat, people watch and listen to the gentle sounds of water passing over the waterfall to the side of the space. A perfect lunch break.
