We all know Zuccotti Park is where the OWS’ers have been camping, but an article in Business Week tells another story. Apparently many of the organizers have been having their meetings a few blocks away at 60 Wall Street, ironically the headquarters of Deutsche Bank. You can read the 10/26/2011 article by Mark Gimein here:
60 Wall Street: The Real Headquarters Of OWS
The space is large, oppulent and apparently only one of two fully-enclosed indoor spaces in Lower Manhattan, according to the definitive source, ‘Privately Owned Public Space: The New York City Experience’ by Jerrold S. Kayden. The other space is 180 Maden Lane. It was a surprising discovery the last time I went scouting for pocket parks. My son and I entered on Wall Street into the space that extends clear through to Pine Street.
Seats and movable tables line the perimeter as well as a variety of food options. There is also an escalator to the subway which, I believe, is the number 2 and 3 lines. With its low lighting, marble tiles and columns, it was a welcome respite on a day when the sky was alternately spitting and pouring down rain.
